Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) 2010 half yearly performance analysis

Colgate-Palmolive (Pakistan) Limited is a Pakistan-based company engaged in the manufacture and sale of detergents, surface care and oral care products. Formerly it was known as National Detergents Limited. Later it was incorporated in 1977 and is based in Karachi, Pakistan.

RECENT PERFORMANCE (1HY10)

The recent performance in 1HY10 of Colgate Palmolive shows that its gross turnover grew by 10.1% keeping in mind the challenging situation characterized by slow economic growth, worsening law and order conditions and the impact of July floods that shook the very foundations of the country. Gross Profit decreased by almost 18% due to escalating costs of energy & raw materials alongside rupee devaluation.

The company could not transfer the increased cost burden on the consumers due to intense competition. Selling and distribution costs saw an increase of 11.3% while administrative expenses grew by 8% which was not as high as the decrease in profit from operations by 42%. Earnings per share reached at Rs 6.66 in 1HY10 (11.51 in 1HY09).
