  4. Dear Saad Afzal,

    So nice of you to have come by and paid a visit.
    Spot dates are misleadingly used by some locals. It is a term more appropriate for the Forex market. Book closure date is the term you are asking about;

    "Only members listed in the company's registration at the cutoff date would be entitled to receive the corporate benefits. However, because shares continuously change hands during transactions, identifying the owner of certain shares becomes complicated. If a company announces book closure today, anyone who currently owns the stock will be entitled to the dividend."

    Well if the company has announced a dividend and/or bonus shares then during the spot dates the price would rise to include those announced benefits and after the date, when the share holder will not get these benefits anymore, from holding the comp[any share, they will come down to something called ex-price.

    Now I am a value investor. I don't wait and trade on and after spot dates, that's speculation (satta bazee in local parlance)! That's too risky and goes against the principles of contrarian investment. There are no short cuts in stock market, no secret formulas to quick riches.

    Sorry to have disappointed you!

    Rashid
